The Hungry Cat in Hollywood has been talked up by Sue to keep it fresh in my mind, and it turned out it was just a few blocks away from the little bungalow we stayed overnight. All we had to do was roll out of bed, stumble around a bit, then saunter over to Vine. [...] I am double motivated to attend a show at the Wiltern because it’s in Koreatown and then I can eat Korean bbq. The trick is – what place to eat at? For the most part, all the standard places seemed to be about the same, so we walked by Gui Rim, it looked acceptable, and [...] Being a member of KCRW has its benefits. Sure, there are aggressive pledge drives twice a year on the radio station, I don’t mind that. I do mind all the postal mail I receive year over year – each time saying the donations are needed more urgently now than ever, rote – as it’s a [...] We whiled away some free time in Silverlake. An attempt to visit the spice shop was fail, turns out it’s closed on Tuesdays. Finding a place with wifi was also a blocker. Most of the places that advertised it, either their wifi was broken or we simply could not get it to work. Oh well. [...] Oh dear, don’t even get me started on how much fail the LA Street Food Fair was to us. It was too packed to even drive by it, much less get in. While en route, a friend texted me to say they’d shut the gates because there were too many people there. So much for [...] I cannot remember the name of this shop, I only recall that it’s along a strip mall of businesses along Sherman Way in North Hollywood. Matchoo and I pulled in to avoid the evening drive with the sun directly in our eyes. Life was short, we had dessert first. Gather up your foreign devil friends and family and come on down for yum cha and dim sum in Rosemead! Gah, they had something like 50 different items available for dim sum on a Saturday, we were overwhelmed in that good sort of way. Four people, sharing 15-18 dishes of mostly seafood dumplings, and it [...] This was our last stop of the great LA food and fun trip. We weren’t going to make a dinner stop at all, and just drive back to Santa Barbara, but we could not turn down the invitation of a simple Japanese curry, and the Sawtelle area seemed to have a lot to offer. However, [...] This shop was the place we’d been saving our stomach space for. Ted had eaten here before, after a visit to the Museum of Jurassic Technology. It’s just across the street, and looks like a hole-in-the-wall. Inside is an Indian market and a food counter. Lunches are served up cafeteria style on paper plates, with [...] |
