Lovely and delicious Thomspon seedless grapes. All this for about $2, from the Saturday morning market! I snacked on them all week. Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market www.sbfarmersmarket.org
Mole. Mole? MOLE. Huuuuh? I had no idea! Ok, I think I did have an idea that this little shop was also a taqueria, but it was the slightest little sliver of a memory from high school which was a long time ago, like uncountable layers of paint on the cow long ago. I came [...]
Always a winner at la Chapala. The menu’s way bigger now than when I first did my taqueria tour of Old town. The prices are still fabulous, at $1.40 for tacos, $5 burritos and hurraches and so on. I’ve never ordered the plates, or gorditas, even burritos. I like the simple tacos too damn much. [...]
Really, how could I drive through Avenal and not stop here? Even the guy working there recognized us. Past words. Los Primos 744 Skyline Blvd Avenal, CA 93204
Look at this amazing display of Solanaceous produce! I took this photo at the Saturday farmers market. I do not recall what farm this came from. Wow, what a range of aubergines and peppers. They’re all in the same plant family, Solanaceae. Same family as potatoes, tobacco, tomatoes, chiles… Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market www.sbfarmersmarket.org
On Fridays, Whole Foods in Santa Barbara has a pizza deal. Buy 2 pizzas at regular price, and a third pizza of equal or lesser value is free. We were hungry, and planned a quiet night in watching videos. What better meal to hunker down on the sofa with than some yummy pizza. The pizzas [...]
The Covered Market in Oxford was first built in 1774 as a way to centralize vendor stalls and clean up the main street. It started out as numerous butcher shops, and today about half the stalls are still food related, but business has expanded beyond butchery to green grocers, kitchenwares, sweets, and touristy country crafts. [...]
Blenheim Crescent is popular for three well-known shops. The most well-known in America is my least favorite. I know people love that shop, thanks to the Notting Hill movie, but it’s got nothing on my two favorites. The Spice Shop is one of them. It’s run by an American expat, and for it’s claustrophobically small [...]
Cheeeeeeese! It smelled musty heavenly, and was a cool place to hunker down in the summer heat. The lady assisting us was super helpful with cheese talk and samples, but terrible at public transportation recommendations. Can’t win them all. Check out these awesome blistered almonds, from the Saturday farmers market. What was nice touch, wrapping them in little wax paper bags and tying them up with brown string. They come in a variety of flavors, and the Chinese 5 Spice is nice, but I like the plain salted ones the best. Just $5 for [...]
