Gui Rim Korean BBQ – KoreatownI am double motivated to attend a show at the Wiltern because it’s in Koreatown and then I can eat Korean bbq. The trick is – what place to eat at? For the most part, all the standard places seemed to be about the same, so we walked by Gui Rim, it looked acceptable, and we went in. The clientele looked diverse, ranging from families, to business people, Koreans and non-Koreans. The staff were mostly young attentive men. It’s all good! The popular way to order appears to be All You Can Eat, and the menu offered different selections of range and quality ranging in price from about $15 to $20. I don’t even remember what category we ordered but it included brisket, ribs, and sirloin steak. I’m thankful that our waiter put a stop to our first round of ordering, suggesting we wait to see how we feel after we grill what we’ve already got, because it turned out to be plenty enough for us to eat. As usual, the bbq came with a selection of banchan. Not as extensive as other places I’ve been, nor as complex of dishes, but it was certainly enough and of course we got a couple nibbles of kimchee which was what counted the most. We gored ourselves on grilled meat. I most enjoyed the ribs, while Gordon most enjoyed the sirloin steak, which came out initially as a full steak, and our waiter deftly snipped it into bitesize strips. I believe the cost for the two of us was about $40 and this included a couple sodas for Gordon. Afterwards, we rolled out the restaurant and back up to the Wiltern where we got Shpongled! Gui Rim |
