This is reputed to be on the site of the oldest coffee shop in England, around 1650 (according to Pepys’ diary), although the Grand Cafe itself isn’t of that era. But that’s close enough for us, and since it’s there, and we’re nearby with time to spare, why not stop in for a coffee. For [...] The Covered Market in Oxford was first built in 1774 as a way to centralize vendor stalls and clean up the main street. It started out as numerous butcher shops, and today about half the stalls are still food related, but business has expanded beyond butchery to green grocers, kitchenwares, sweets, and touristy country crafts. [...] Let’s give Posh Fish a chance to redeem itself after that ginormous kebab baby that slayed us the night before. Here we have the prettiest bag of chips I’ve ever seen, and it was loaded with warm, comforting chips with lashings of salt and vinegar. It truly is the great British take away. Posh Fish [...] Blenheim Palace is where Winston Churchill grew up, that lucky thing. We came here for a touring day out. Oddly enough, once I arrived at the front gate, I realized I’d been here before, while I was at school in Reading. Suddenly the thought of shelling out 20 quid for a place I’d been to [...] Since we’re on the final stretch of our holiday in England, it’s only fitting that we sample the finest of standard British fare before we go. This means we must inevitably eat a kebab. Tonight was the night, and we ventured down the road to a popular takeaway spot, Posh Fish. Note: not actually posh. [...] Do you know what I like the most? No, not cakefarts! Ahem. Do you know what I like the most? White chocolate Magnums. An ice lolly of vanilla ice cream enrobed in white chocolate. I finally got one. Aw, it’s our last night in London, time went by far too quickly. We spent it as a quiet night in, with a homecooked meal by our gracious hosts, Phil and Mary. We are in Britain! We eat meat and two veg! We are happy! Thanks, guys! Good bye! byeeeee byebyeeee…eeeee*cllick* Blenheim Crescent is popular for three well-known shops. The most well-known in America is my least favorite. I know people love that shop, thanks to the Notting Hill movie, but it’s got nothing on my two favorites. The Spice Shop is one of them.
