gelato at Spoon
A bright and tidy shop with a wonderfully diverse range of mature flavors that slightly balances the bubblegum pink interior.

I walked in dead set on getting the honey fig macarpone gelato, but then I saw the pink grapefruit and had to try it. As luck would have it, samples are happilydoled out. The pink grapefruit was delicious, really delicious.

The small size serving is $4. I have no idea how much the other sizes are, I don’t even recall seeing a price list. You just have to walk in with the mindset that prices be damned, you want gelato and you will have it.  And if you get the medium or large size, you can get a combination of flavors.

For the immediate downtown neighborhood, alternatives are mainstream ice cream or fro-yo. So really, there aren’t suitable alternatives. But, I cannot give them the top rating in good faith because the gelato is brought in from out of town. And greater Santa Barbara does have another gelato shop that does produce locally.

In the end I stuck to my guns and got the honey fig mascarpone. I will be back for the pink grapefruit, I promise.

Final note: the girls that work there unfortunately have to dress like hoochies. It slightly cheapened the experience for me, but it might please others.
